Over 28 years ago a group of professional local artists decided that the Quad Cities needed an art fair run by artists with the interests of the participating artists in mind. That was the birth of Riverssance Festival of Fine Art. Since its inception, Riverssance has been bringing the finest of local and national artists and artisans to the area each year.
Located in the historic Village of East Davenport in Davenport, Iowa, the art fair is held annually the 3rd full weekend in September (Sept. 19-20) in Lindsay Park on the top of a tree-lined hill which overlooks the scenic Mississippi River.
This year’s event will feature over 100 artists and artisans from across the nation. This is a juried art show so the quality is outstanding. I like to refer to the event as a collection of mobile art galleries which allow shoppers to find unique work not always available in the region. Here are some samples of what you’ll find at Riverssance.
Live music is another major part to the event and is contracted by the River Music Experience in Davenport. This year the line-up includes:
There is a free Children’s Art Tent where kids can create works of art to take home with them. This year’s art tent is under the guidance of professional artist, Pat Bereskin, who is the owner of Bereskin Fine Art Gallery & Studio located at MidCoast Fine Arts’ Bucktown Center for the Arts in downtown Davenport, IA.
There is always good food to keep art shoppers nourished. I like to sample all of choices! This years food vendors include:
And what is food and a festival without wine? There will be a wine tent with regional wine tasting by Tabor Home Winery from Baldwin, IA.
I find wine tasting is very special when you are on a hill overlooking the Mississippi River listening to live music and purchasing art! After tasting your favorite wines, I suggest that you purchase a bottle or two to take home.
Each year, a special event t-shirt is sold with the work of one of the participating artists on the front. Since I have been involved in the Riverssance event as either an artist or committee member for most of the 28 years, I decided to have a special quilt made to commemorate the event and my participation in it. I found a talented Quad Cities native quilt artist who now lives in Texas and the project was accomplished.
