Despite torrential rain, high winds, and a tornado warning, nothing could turn 3,625 Mallards hockey fans away from the iWireless Center on Wednesday, November 11.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Quad City Mallards hosted “Military Appreciation Night” recognizing those who have served in the armed forces.
The Mallards wore special edition VFW jerseys during the game. After Wednesday’s game, the Flock will continue to wear the VFW sweaters during warm-ups on home ice. Then, on March 25, the jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit VFW Post 1303 in Rock Island.
Former United States Army Captain William Albracht of Rock Island was the guest of honor.
Helmets of Hope, an organization whose goal is to serve those who served, held a raffle throughout the night. The funds raised from the raffle will help provide everyday cleaning supplies to vets moving from homelessness into housing of their own.
One of the emcees of the evening Kat Kyzramzcak said, “The Mallards honor Veterans not just today but everyday.”
