Free kid-friendly building workshops

What’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning with kids in the Quad Cities?

Hint: It involves hammers, nails and safety goggles.

IMG_0650 The free Kids Workshops at Home Depot and Build & Grow Workshops at Lowe’s are wonderful ways to get kids excited about DIY projects and help them learn to safely use tools. Each month features a new project and includes all materials and tools (including paint).

These projects are aimed toward 5-10 year olds, but my preschooler loves building his own projects (with parental assistance). We’ve helped him complete projects from trains to flower pots and from picture frames to airplanes. Each child goes home with the completed project, along with a personalized apron, certificate and completion pin or badge.
