Since I am a fan of short day trips, I think Lavender Crest Winery in Colona, Illinois, is a must visit destination. Lavender Crest, which opened in 2004, is located on 9 acres of rich land. It is a special place to enjoy outside dining as well as indoor dining, special occasions and events. The outdoor dining area is on a shaded patio and looks out onto the vineyard and a large gazebo.
The inside of the winery includes a large gift shop with a wide selection of Lavender Crest wines as well as wine related gifts and fine chocolates. The winery is open for lunch and wine tours with a wine tasting room featuring award-winning wines.
If you looking for a special dinner experience, there are special All You Can Eat Prime Rib Wine Downs monthly through December. The dinner is 5:30pm to 8:00pm with live music from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
The facilities are available for rental for Friday night events, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, anniversary parties, retirement parties, baby and bridal showers, class reunions, and dances.
I recently attended a retirement lunch at the winery. The retirement luncheon was in the large banquet area and included two wine selections. I chose the white table wine and found it very good with our soup, sandwich and salad luncheon. The area is quiet and conducive to conversation with a beautiful view of the vineyards.
Take some time to enjoy the view at Lavender Crest Winery. Have a leisurely lunch, do the wine tasting and stroll the beautiful grounds.
