Fall is the season of leaves, cooler temps, pumpkin spice, and Oktoberfests! There are a lot of different versions to this fun classic event in the Quad Cities.

If you are interested in a day trip, DeWitt, IA, is a good destination less than an hour away. In June my friend, Abby, and I decided to take a drive to DeWitt, Iowa, which is 30 minutes north of Davenport on Route 61. DeWitt has a population a little over 5,000 and offers interesting shopping, restaurant and museum options at a leisurely pace.
As a mom, there’s a lot to love about the Quad Cities.
And near the top of the list is the Family Museum in Bettendorf. Great for locals and visitors alike, this is one of my own family’s favorite spots to spend a morning (or an entire day). While it made my top list of cabin-busters, it’s also worth a visit in warmer weather.
And this is even more true now – the Family Museum recently opened their new aviation-themed outdoor play structure. And this is way more than a simple outdoor play structure.
Three and a half years ago I moved to the Quad Cities from my hometown in Central Illinois. Though I’m not a native, I have come to love it here; Whitey’s Ice Cream, local beers, and the Figge Art Museum have all found a place in my heart. I’ll admit I’m still not the biggest fan of QC style pizza, but I absolutely love living less than a mile away from the Mississippi River. I’ve made friends here. I’ve learned a lot about life, myself, and adventure here. I started writing Intrepid Daily here. In other words, the Quad Cities area has become my home.
I’ve become part of a community here that I truly value, and I want to share that with all of you. If you’re a neighbor of mine here in the Quad Cities, a recent transplant, or plan on visiting anytime soon, I’d love to help you get started having your own adventures in the outdoors. With that in mind, here are a few local outdoor attractions that I recommend. From hiking and camping to biking and boating, there’s something for everybody so get out there and have a great time at one (or all) of these local spots.
The College Hill District is located around the intersection of 14th Avenue and 30th Street in Rock Island, Illinois. The area has grown from being a small business area supported by Augustana College students to a vibrant retail area of the Quad Cities.
There are over 60 different businesses; from antiques and vintage wares to specialty teas, coffees, and restaurants that one could easily spend an afternoon there.
It’s the last hurrah of summer! What are your plans for Labor Day Weekend? We have some ideas for you.
The Quad Cities is centrally located to allow for interesting day trips less than an hour away. In June, my sister, Barbara, and I decided to take a drive to Eldridge, Iowa, just 15 minutes north of Davenport on Route 61. Eldridge with a population a little over 5,000 is a growing community with several newer businesses to attract day trippers.
Have you ever had any interest in home brewing? It is a hobby that is booming in popularity right now and the Quad Cities has a plethora of options for those interested, from the novice to the expert.
If there’s one thing young adults in the QC look forward to every summer, it’s Fair Week. Summer nights, country music and the night of their lives with some of their favorite people. It’s the little things in life that make it one of the best times of your life.
Almost every week I hear someone complaining about how going to the movies has lost its appeal: the prices have skyrocketed, popcorn costs at least $4-$5 when you can get it at the grocery store for half the price, and people chatter and text in the dark theater throughout the entire duration of the movie. And I’ll be one to agree that going to the movies has lost its charm and purpose from the ideal 1950s scene we all imagine in our head.
