Eldridge, Iowa: Vintage Shopping & Lunch Day Trip

The Quad Cities is centrally located to allow for interesting day trips less than an hour away. My sister, Barbara, and I decided to take a drive to Eldridge, Iowa, just 15 minutes north of Davenport on Route 61. Eldridge with a population a little over 5,000 is a growing community with several newer businesses to attract day trippers.

Our first stop was to Living Vintage to shop for home accessories. One of my favorite vintage shops, Living Vintage is a beautifully merchandised shop/antique mall. The owners, Robin and Chris, and the manager, Ashley, re-merchandise often to keep the inventory fresh and inviting. They have a flair for creating eye candy with vintage and repurposed items and chalk paint.

The shop also offers antiques, hand crafted signs and gift items including jewelry, cards and accent pillows. I always buy several cards by East Moline artist, L. Getz. On this trip I purchased an accent pillow that had the word “chocolate” in the design and a vintage bottle decorated with a tiny bottle of glitter and the words “Family Fun”. I had my eye on a beautiful chalk painted dresser in gray and metallic gold with a French motif that was designed by owner, Robin. It is still on my wish list! Of course, Barbara and I will be returning for the annual Fall Open House on September 3.

After piling our purchases into my car, we decided to have lunch at one of our favorite spots, Al & Gerry’s. Al & Gerry’s is a neighborhood bar with wonderful food. We opted for the hamburgers with fries. You can eat for only $5.00 and they always have a hot lunch plate and homemade dessert!

My other favorite lunch options include the local bakery, Eastern Iowa Bakery. I have eaten there several times and love the homemade breads, sandwiches, soups and goodies.  The Rustic Ridge Golf Course has Lynn’s BBQ & Saloon that looks out onto the greens. Their specialty is BBQ. There are also other restaurants offering Chinese food, pizza and ice cream.

After lunch we went to 2 Sisters Resale & Gifts  and then had ice cream at Smilee’s Ice Cream Shop. As we left Eldridge, we stopped at Sips for a freshly brewed latte. On another day I would like to try the new day spa, Alure, that has opened, too. If you like short day trips with lunch, I suggest taking a drive to Eldridge, Iowa.
