Almost every week I hear someone complaining about how going to the movies has lost its appeal: the prices have skyrocketed, popcorn costs at least $4-$5 when you can get it at the grocery store for half the price, and people chatter and text in the dark theater throughout the entire duration of the movie. And I’ll be one to agree that going to the movies has lost its charm and purpose from the ideal 1950s scene we all imagine in our head.
But not so fast. Don’t lay out that $20 for 2 people at the packed theater, and don’t give up going to a movie altogether. The Quad Cities area is home to the Blue Grass, Iowa, drive-in theater: the perfect picture of a family friendly, fun date, charming movie house time that we all imagine in our heads. The drive in is home to two screens, each hosting two movies. You turn the movie volume up on your radio, and can sit in the car or outside and enjoy the fresh air, your loved ones and the movies all in one.
Enjoy the country summer nights and charm of the Blue Grass Drive-In before the Midwest winter hits again. Open Sunday through Saturday, the double-feature movie costs $10 for adults, kids 4-12 yrs. $5, and discount day pricing Sun.-Tues. Check out the movie times on their website and Facebook page.
