Celebrate Bald Eagles, Support Conservation, Great Events

The QCCA (Quad City Conservation Alliance) Expo Center is a finely constructed vintage building made of huge timbers from the mills that once were on the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities. I always take the time to look up into the rafters to admire the size and workmanship of the support beams in the Expo Center in Rock Island, Illinois. The center features a 60,000 sq. ft. Exhibit Hall and a 4,600 sq. ft. Auditorium with a seating capacity of 500.

The Rock Island Conservation Club’s purpose “is to promote our conservation resources, protect wildlife’s natural habitat, and to enable families to enjoy the natural resources within our local community.” The club is a nonprofit, privately owned family oriented club on 110 acres with three lakes with over 70 acres of water.

The Expo Center, located adjacent to the Botanical Center, is a thriving center which hosts a diverse mix of new and annual events each year. The next event, Bald Eagle Days on Jan. 6-8, celebrates the resurgence of eagles that live on the rivers during the winter months. People from across the world come to the area during the winter to see the Bald Eagles near our locks and dams and to experience the Mississippi River.

The Expo Center has a nice concession area with ample seating and sells large ice cream cones and bags of popcorn for only $1.00! I always enjoy a snack when attending any event in the center. The proceeds help fund the work of the Conservation Club.

As a frequent attendee at my favorite Expo Center events (the antique shows, the garden show, and the home show), I recommend planning to attend a future event that interests you at the Expo Center. I would also highly recommend a visit to the Quad City Botanical Center next door. Make a day of it!
