The HavLife Martini ShakeOff 2017

I recently attended my first HavLife Martini Shake Off, held at the River Center in downtown Davenport on Thursday, February 16, 2017. It is one of the Quad Cities’ biggest fundraising events for a fantastic cause.

HavLife is a non-profit organization that supports children’s’ aspirations of being involved in a music or athletic program that may be too costly for families to cover.

The room at the RiverCenter was beautifully decorated and prepped to serve almost 2,000 people. There was a silent auction going on throughout the evening while attendees enjoyed all of the creative cocktails available.

Every year over 20 different establishments compete for “Martini of the Year”, each serving their elaborately devised drinks while hoping to win 1 of 7 categories in the competition.

There were some consistent popular flavors, including key lime, blueberry, and strawberry basil. The craziest I saw was a Flaming Hot Cheeto Martini! My personal favorite was the Tart Cherry from RAW Bar.

  • Best Classic Martini – Steventon’s Riverfront Food & Spirits
  • Bartender’s Choice – Jumer’s Casino & Hotel
  • Best Fruit Martini – Hero’s Pub
  • Best Dessert Martini – The Office Bar & Lounge
  • Best Shaker Space – The Smoking Dog Pub
  • Best Martini Presentation – PUB 1848
  • People’s Choice – ICONS MARTINI

Alongside the samples served was a great display of appetizers and desserts all the to tune of several different live musical acts, including Svet the Electro Hip Hop Violinist who impressed the crowds that evening, just as he did on America’s Got Talent, pictured below.

While the tickets were a little on the high side, $55, it was for a great cause and an impressive event as well as turnout; by 7:30 pm the ballroom was packed. My tip for anyone who plans to attend the event in the future is to get there right at beginning. I encourage all of legal age to attend next year, I’m already looking forward to it.
