Colorful And Flavorful Indian Food In The Quad Cities

I am not one to choose chain restaurants when I go out to eat. The Quad Cities is fortunate to have a good mix of locally owned ethnic restaurants that allow you to taste foods from around the world. Last weekend to celebrate Brian’s birthday, we chose Indian food. What a celebration of flavors, color and texture it was!

The Great Indian Restaurant is close to our neighborhood in Moline so that made it a perfect destination for our birthday dinner. We decided to try the Special Non-Vegetarian Dinner for Two which included an outstanding Mulligatawny Soup, Tandoori Mix Grill, Lamb Curry, Saag Paneer, Dal Makhani, Naan, Rice, and Gulab Jamun for dessert. Needless to say we had two boxes of leftovers for other meals!

Since I had taken an Indian cooking class a month ago at the University of Illinois Extension Office, I was interested in tasting and seeing the Indian cooking creations from another perspective. The many areas of India provide distinctive regional flavors.  I found the flavors of northern India at The Great Indian Restaurant to be rich and yet not heavy. The textures of the food made each dish unique.

I think it is important to expand your horizons and try new things. For dine in, carry out and catering, Indian food is a good choice with a wide selection of vegetarian dishes. Expand your taste buds!
