It’s the last hurrah of summer! What are your plans for Labor Day Weekend? We have some ideas for you.
Go-karts rule the streets in downtown Rock Island, Illinois, during Labor Day Weekend on September 2-3, 2017. Since its inaugural event in 1994, the free Rock Island Grand Prix has worked its way up to becoming one of the highlights of the kart-racing calendar.
The Grand Prix is the largest and safest go-kart street race in the world and is the only race in the United States that is sanctioned for international drivers.
Action starts Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. and concludes around 5 p.m. There is also a Car show on Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and live music each night starting at 8:00 p.m. Sunday’s Opening Ceremonies will be at 10:15 a.m. with the Driver’s Parade followed by the Kid’s Autograph Session at the Start/Finish line. In addition to the practice rounds, qualifying rounds, and heat races on Saturday, there will be 14 races on Sunday afternoon.
A street race is a unique experience. Because it is a temporary circuit, there can be no advance practice. Teams must show up prepared to hit the proper setup and find the best lines around the track after only a few short practice sessions.
In addition to the Grand Prix, enjoy other activities in the Quad Cities over the Labor Day Weekend.
