Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, opens its planetarium for holiday stargazing shows Monday-Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. “Season of Light” is a multimedia planetarium show that combines music and narration with astronomical images projected onto the planetarium’s 30-foot dome to explain how seasonal traditions are connected to the night sky. “December is the darkest month of the year,” says Dr. Lee Carkner, planetarium director. “People all over the world have held festivals, lit candles, and tried to bring light to the darkness of the winter sky.” “Season of Light” also explains the change of seasons, the winter constellations, and speculates about the Star of Bethlehem.
