The Java Lab looks across to the wooded ravines surrounding the library and has an outdoor eating space. The cafe was recently renovated to accommodate more people and to enhance the look and the function of the cafe. The cafe has a fresh menu which includes daily specials for $5.00. The soup, salads sandwiches, and quiche are expertly made with quality ingredients. On the days when quiche is on the menu, one of the owners makes the quiche in the morning so it is always delicious with perfect crust.
The desserts are rich and tempting and include a chocolate cake and a carrot cake as well as cupcakes and other bar cookies and brownies. Huge cookies or scones are usually baking in the oven. Who can resist the scent of baking goodies? Hot or iced coffee and tea drinks and Italian sodas top off the menu.
The Java Lab Cafe also does catering and has a fresh and mouth watering catering menu on their website.
I can’t leave without going into the library so after lunch I like to look at the art collection that has been purchased by the library for patrons to enjoy. There is also always an interesting new art exhibit by local and regional artists on the main floor.
If the library’s used book and magazine room is open, I usually look for a bargain for my collection.
The Moline Library plans many family oriented, adult and children’s workshops and events though out the year. Some of the events in November include a Vietnam War Poster Exhibit, Story Time for Littles and LEGO Robotics. Next week I am signed up for the free Ancestry research workshop. I will be sure to grab a hot coffee and lunch from the Java Lab Cafe before I start!
