K’nees Florists in Moline, Illinois, has been reinvented and energized. Earlier in the month, I saw a chalkboard sign outside the building promoting their holiday open house. I decided to stop in and I was greeted by a new environment. The business has come alive under the guidance of the new owner, Trisha Engle.
Inspiredesign Jewelry is a creative and reasonably priced custom jewelry shop in Rock Island that opened in 2008. Consider stopping by for a one-of-a-kind item or some enhancements to your current pieces. The lovely little shop will serve you well.
With over 30 year of experience, shop owner and artist Mindy Diaz and her team offer spectacular designs and custom jewelry along with standard jewelry services like cleaning and resizing.
When I think of shopping for unique items, I often go to Wallace’s Garden Center in Bettendorf, Iowa. Their slogan is “Your Store For All Seasons” and I agree! The center is beautifully merchandised for each season of the year, but it is at its shiny best at Christmas.
My feeling is that it is important to explore the past to understand the present and to prepare for the future. With this in mind, I went with my antique club to take a tour of the Rock Island County Historical Society. Located since 1962 in the historical area of Moline, Illinois, across from the Deere-Wiman Home and Butterworth Center, the volunteer-run historical society has been in existence since 1905. In the past decade, there have been many changes and additions to the museum and research facilities.
The Quad Cities doesn’t let a holiday go by without some special events, and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are not exceptions. The close of the old year and the beginning of the New Year brings exciting and affordable events and hotel packages.
A few years back father and son duo, Chad and Nieko Summers, started Healthy Harvest Urban Farms in East Moline, Illinois. It’s an organic community garden and garden center. They have recently taken this venture and extended into a storefront in downtown Rock Island.

As you look out the frost covered windows during this month, many of us dwell on what the holiday season means to us. Every person you meet will answer that question differently — but most will note the importance of family, giving, holiday decor, and cheer.
During this busy time, most families are constantly on the go with little time to spend together until the holidays arrive. However, in those open pockets of time, the Putnam Museum has their 4-day annual Polar Express Pajama Party, giving an opportunity to spend quality family time together.
