Icestravaganza is Winter Fun

Saturday, January 18th, 2020, marks the 8th year of Icestravaganza! It’s an annual event held in downtown Davenport outside of the Freight House Farmer’s Market from 11am – 4pm, with an after party following from 6 – 8pm.

Ice Ship

Almost 25,000 pounds of ice is brought in for several different ice sculptures created and placed throughout the event.

Ice Mermaid

During the daytime event, there are many activities for families, such as different games like ice bags or ice ring toss, prize raffle giveaways, and story time by the Davenport Public Library.  The daytime festivities were free to the public. The Farmer’s Market extended its operating hours in order to stay open the whole time. This was a nice, warm inside reprieve from the cold.

Ice Sculpting

There were ice sculptures being created throughout the day, enabling the crowd to watch the artists at work using various blades, heating elements, and even chainsaws.

The evening event is for ages 21 and up only. There is a live DJ, cocktails and beers, and a beautiful ice bar. The pre-tickets were sold out on the day of, making it a popular addition to this year’s celebration. It was fun to see the ice sculptures lit up at night. They were beautiful. You can go inside to warm up, if being outside in the cold isn’t your thing.

As the event continues to grow each year, from number of attendees to amount of ice and sponsors, Icestravaganza is here to stay. I look forward to next year and making it a new winter time tradition. Just be sure to dress warm!
