Two creative arts events should be top on your shopping experiences in the Quad Cities this year. Both Rock The Arts and OMG BeckyFEST promises to work their shopping mojo on you!
Rock The Arts
Rock The Arts on December 7-8 is a new twist on the Gallery Hop concept that has been thriving in downtown Rock Island for well over a decade. This is the second Rock The Arts event with three large venues: The ARTery/MidCoast West Gallery, Quad City Arts, and the DeSoto Building (Facebook page). These venues will feature quality art, art demonstrations and refreshments. The festive nature of Rock The Arts will get holiday shoppers in the mood for finding one-of-a-kind hand crafted gifts.
Quad City Arts will have the opening of their newest juried exhibit, “Finding Inspiration: Monet to Matisse”, in coordination with the Figge Art Museum’s French Moderns exhibit. Their sales gallery has a fine representation of quality regional artwork (both functional and decorative) at reasonable prices.
The ARTery is an eclectic gallery with affordable art for all ages. Within the space, MidCoast Gallery West will have the opening of work by artist, Jeanne O’Melia.
Live demonstrations will include the Quad City Wood Turners doing wood turning and artist, Joel Knanishu, doing raku firing at the DeSoto Building. Both are interesting processes to watch and will intrigue people of all ages. This is a family-friendly event so bring the kids to learn about the arts and the process of creating.
There is no admission fee for the two-day event. Running both Friday, December 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 8 from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m., Rock The Arts promises to meet your gift searching needs.
Across the river in Davenport, OMG BeckyFEST will be open on Saturday, December 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the RiverCenter. A makers paradise, OMG BeckyFEST will entice you with original work by over 130 creative businesses. This is a kid-friendly event so bring the family!
There is only a $2.00 donation to attend! Engage with the makers and be thrilled by their creations!
