Big Swing Brewing Co. is now open in Downtown Rock Island, Illinois, located at 113 18th Street. Big Swing is located in the old Blue Cat Brew Pub building and the community has been anticipating the reopening of the familiar doors.
While the place still has the same feel to it, the updates inside have given it a clean and more modern aesthetic.
There is a combination of old and new at play here. The staff consists of some from Blue Cat and some not; the menu has Blue Cat favorites, but with a twist; the building feels like Blue Cat, but it isn’t. And that’s okay. This is a new business in a building with fond memories for many. While the changes are obvious, there is still a nod to the former icon.
The food is top notch. The chef behind the menu has done a great job of taking traditional bar food – such as Grilled Cheese – and adding a twist to it – like adding Buffalo Chicken, pictured above. Many people have asked if the Scotch Egg is still on the menu, and it is, but now served with chorizo.
Big Swing offers daily features and lunch specials that are priced amazingly. Last time I stopped in they offered a Monte Crisco served on French Toast bread with fries for $6.99! It was wonderful and a heck of a deal.
Others are also asking about the brewing plan. As of right now, they aren’t brewing at Big Swing but plan to soon. On tap they are offering a nice variety of craft beers and ciders for their guests, as well as wine and spirits.
It was nice to be back in that building again and to be hopeful for the things to come from Big Swing.
