Meet the Unhuggables of the Forest: A Fantastic Family Event

Meet the Unhuggables of the Forest is a fabulous family event hosted by Citizens to Preserve Black Hawk Park Foundation and co-sponsored by the Sierra Club Eagle View Group. The annual event is an absolute delight featuring a variety of forest animals and the qualities that make them unhuggable/huggable and lovable/unlovable. My family attended for the first time this year and WOW! I was impressed. So were the three of my sons (ages 7, 4 and 2) that joined me.

Wheel Throwing Pottery Lessons with Carolyn Krueger at QC Co-Lab

For our recent wedding anniversary my husband, Luke, and I spent time wheel throwing pottery with Carolyn Krueger in the Clay Lab at QC Co-Lab in Davenport. IT WAS AMAZING!! Carolyn Krueger is a fabulous local artist who really cares about bringing art into the lives of Quad Citizens. You can learn more about her from Deborah Davis’ post titled Carolyn Krueger and The ARTery. What I found especially fantastic was that while she was clearly a very talented artist, her greatest gift might actually be patience. She was an excellent teacher and well worth the time and money we spent with her.

New I-74 Bridge 360 Virtual Reality is MUST SEE

“This was the most amazing experience! I thought it was kind of silly you were making me go to see the new I-74 bridge, but I’m so glad you did!” said my brother who was in town visiting from the Chicago suburbs. We also took our 15-year-old nephew who thought it was “so cool”. My in-laws were really impressed, too. Even our 2 year old had fun!

What is the I-74 Bridge 360 Virtual Reality (VR) Experience?
It’s a highly interactive technology experience that allows you to see what the new I-74 bridge will look like, what driving on it will be like and what the views from the new bridge will show.

Investigate Nahant Marsh with Toddlers

Learning, understanding, inquiring and exploring begin the minute a child is born. From the first day of their life, they’re looking at everything, wondering about the world and the people around them. As children grow into toddlers and preschoolers, they are into everything — literally. Pulling out the brooms, towels, make-up bags and hair-bands, and piling up everything on the floor they for someone to notice as they count out the objects. Soaked in mud, children run back into the house, beaming in pride at their family members because they found an insect.

The exploration never stops, and the learning does not either. It’s the perfect combination that Nahant Marsh Education Center wants to continue to foster during childhood development through their early childhood programs.

Jump into fun at Helium Trampoline Park

Helium Trampoline Park in Eldridge, Iowa, definitely lives up to its tagline of Iowa’s FUN park. We went with a dozen 7-year-olds for a birthday party and it was definitely tons of FUN!

What’s there:

  • Dozens and dozens of rectangular trampolines.
  • Trampolines with basketball hoops (my husband was very proud of his 5’10” dunking abilities)
  • 2 dodgeball areas that were trampoline courts
  • A 2 height ledge-fall onto a giant cushy pillow area
  • Jousting over trampolines

Niabi Zoo set to open April 14th

Going through winter and the back/forth in temperatures before spring finally decides to stay, it’s important to remember the beauty on the other side of winter when we’re feeling that the snowfall and cold temperatures will never end. Think of the sunshine and outdoor adventures. Think of taking the ones you love, your favorite kiddos, or just yourself on an adventure to the local zoo.

ComedySportz Quad Cities – A Fun Night of Funny!

ComedySportz Quad Cities is a fun evening for the whole family (well, maybe not the babies, but most everyone else). Two teams of comedians square off in a competition of funny. The blue team and the red team compete in a variety of improv games with the audience judging the funniest team in each round. At the end of all the rounds they tally the points and the best team wins! Additional humor is added by the referee, “Mr. Voice” from the sound booth, and hilarious memes and gifs on the big screen.
