Hamilton’s Story at Moline Library

Most of us have heard of Alexander Hamilton, whether it was in history class or from the very popular Broadway musical. He was a U.S. founding father and the first Secretary of the Treasury in the country. Admittedly, our current interest in him was pretty much non-existent until Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical on the historical figure became a great obsession. But while we’re singing along and watching the story play out on the stage, it’s important to differentiate the fact versus fiction portions of the show — something Miranda notes himself in his own reflections of his masterpiece. The truth in history and the passion for Hamilton’s life is coming to Moline Public Library this summer.

Heroines of Literature – Get Lost In Its Brilliance!

The new exhibit, Literary Heroines: Their Times, Their Fashions, at the Putnam Museum is a brilliant blend of literature, fashion and book art. My monthly book club, Reading Between the Wines, decided that this was a fun way to celebrate literature. One of our members made our reservations at the Putnam Museum for the special luncheon which was designed specifically to attract book clubs.

Explore The Past At The Rock Island County Historical Society

My feeling is that it is important to explore the past to understand the present and to prepare for the future. With this in mind, I went with my antique club to take a tour of the Rock Island County Historical Society. Located since 1962 in the historical area of Moline, Illinois, across from the Deere-Wiman Home and Butterworth Center, the volunteer-run historical society has been in existence since 1905. In the past decade, there have been many changes and additions to the museum and research facilities.
