Two creative arts events should be top on your shopping experiences in the Quad Cities this year. Both Rock The Arts and OMG BeckyFEST promises to work their shopping mojo on you!
I love living in the Quad Cities, and in Rock Island specifically. One of the reasons is the murals that are literally almost around every corner. A few months ago, our family drove by the new mural on the corner of 14th Ave. and 30th Street every day to see the progress.
If you haven’t toured the murals of Rock Island lately, let me be the first to invite you to check out the artwork! It’s pretty rockin’. Here are some of my favorites.
For our recent wedding anniversary my husband, Luke, and I spent time wheel throwing pottery with Carolyn Krueger in the Clay Lab at QC Co-Lab in Davenport. IT WAS AMAZING!! Carolyn Krueger is a fabulous local artist who really cares about bringing art into the lives of Quad Citizens. You can learn more about her from Deborah Davis’ post titled Carolyn Krueger and The ARTery. What I found especially fantastic was that while she was clearly a very talented artist, her greatest gift might actually be patience. She was an excellent teacher and well worth the time and money we spent with her.
I attended my first Gallery Hop! Hosted by the Downtown Rock Island Arts and Entertainment District, held on December 11 from 6-10pm. This art walk had 24 different “Hop Stops” between 16th and 25th streets and 1st and 5th Avenues in Rock Island. Each stop was a different District business or organization that showcased up to five different artists.
