Argrow’s House of Healing and Hope is a safe space for women survivors of violence and abuse. Their services empower women to take the steps needed to protect themselves and move forward successfully.
Offering daily opportunities for healing, the organization meets women where they are and encourages them to accept the support they need. “Argrow’s House is also a bath and body business where women healing from violence and abuse create beautiful bath products that provide a living wage for themselves in a safe space that celebrates who they are.”

I love living in the Quad Cities, and in Rock Island specifically. One of the reasons is the murals that are literally almost around every corner. A few months ago, our family drove by the new mural on the corner of 14th Ave. and 30th Street every day to see the progress.
If you haven’t toured the murals of Rock Island lately, let me be the first to invite you to check out the artwork! It’s pretty rockin’. Here are some of my favorites.

‘Tis the season for great craft fairs in the Quad Cities. From vendor fairs to small church sales to big ones at the Expo Center and RiverCenter…I love a good craft fair. I love local, hand-made, creative, fun, unique gifts. I love the giveaways, the camaraderie, and okay…I love to shop!

Meet the Unhuggables of the Forest is a fabulous family event hosted by Citizens to Preserve Black Hawk Park Foundation and co-sponsored by the Sierra Club Eagle View Group. The annual event is an absolute delight featuring a variety of forest animals and the qualities that make them unhuggable/huggable and lovable/unlovable. My family attended for the first time this year and WOW! I was impressed. So were the three of my sons (ages 7, 4 and 2) that joined me.

With 400,000 people in the Quad Cities area, we offer a unique location to go to college. We aren’t a typical “college town” but we also aren’t a “small town in the middle of a cornfield.” Instead we offer college students some great benefits: opportunities for job shadowing and internships, a limited pool of competitors for those opportunities (unlike large cities or college towns with a glut of youth looking for experience), affordable sports and arts events, a fun nightlife with a variety of downtowns, and a safe place to grow to adulthood.
If you have (or are) a student searching for colleges, I highly recommend putting the Quad Cities colleges on your list of places to stop.

As our kids are getting older (we have four boys ages 9, 7, 4, and 2) we are on the lookout for great races for them in which to participate. It’s a bonus, of course, if Dad can run as well. We’ve identified a few races and walks around the Quad Cities that offer great experiences for kids and families.

There’s a new (well, new to me) MUST-TRY eatery in Rock Island and it’s called Pee Wee’s Restaurant. This family affair is run by Rock Island native, Will Clay, and named after his father. His mother greeted us while we were there and was a lovely woman. Even though it opened in Spring 2017 we just recently had a chance to try it out. Boy, are we glad we didn’t put it off any longer!

“This was the most amazing experience! I thought it was kind of silly you were making me go to see the new I-74 bridge, but I’m so glad you did!” said my brother who was in town visiting from the Chicago suburbs. We also took our 15-year-old nephew who thought it was “so cool”. My in-laws were really impressed, too. Even our 2 year old had fun!
What is the I-74 Bridge 360 Virtual Reality (VR) Experience?
It’s a highly interactive technology experience that allows you to see what the new I-74 bridge will look like, what driving on it will be like and what the views from the new bridge will show.
