A fantastical exhibit of carousels, from German Immigrant Gustav Dentzel to a carousel kaleidoscope by Tom Chouteau. Learn how carousels create mechanical merriment in this exhibit on the artistry, physics, and history of this delightful amusement.
The German American Heritage Center’s (GAHC) new exhibit celebrates the whimsical world of carousels, or merry-go-rounds.
"Steam Circus: The Colorful World of Carousels" opens May 13 and continues through to October 21, 2018. Learn about the mixture of old world craftsmanship with new world technology and engineering, and the history of carousels from its military origins. The exhibit features beautiful pieces of art, history, and carousel horses crafted by the world renowned Dentzel Carousel Company and Charles Looff Company.
The German American Heritage Center is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 12-4 p.m. Admission is $5 adults; $4 for ages 60 and up; $3 for ages 6-17.
