On special exhibit at the Smith Studio and Gallery are the unique paintings of Nancy Staszak; an award-winning artist and former educator from Woodridge Illinois. Though her artwork is usually in printmaking, collage and drawing she has recently renewed her interest in painting. This interest is distinctively combined with a recent fascination of animatronic dinosaur exhibits at the Detroit and Brookfield zoos. Nancy was inspired while watching families and children shriek, laugh and run to get a better view of these life-sized creatures. Now she has begun a series of dinosaur portraits imagining them in bright, fluorescent colors that suggest a sense of “mythical beasts”. Ms. Staszak uses complementary colors and multiple thin layers of glazes for contrast and harmony. Uniquely, each dinosaur portrait seems to have a special story to tell …a story from another world.
This exhibition is GREAT FUN for children of all ages. Families should not miss this special opportunity to become familiar with art galleries and all that they have to offer.
The Smith Studio and Gallery is located at 124 S. State Street in downtown Geneseo. The Gallery is open on Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-5:00. This special art exhibition is free and will be open to the public through the end of July.
