Creamy deliciousness coated in chocolate? I think Whitey’s Ice Cream has some major local competition…maybe more like a sibling rivalry.
The local treat Country Style Ice Cream opened in 1947 by Wayne Lindgren, the brother of Whitey’s founder Chester “Whitey” Lindgren. The two siblings collaborated to create a soft-serve style ice cream for Quad Citians to enjoy.
This is the reason behind the Country Style-Whitey’s double joint on 23rd Avenue and 43rd Street in Moline. Eventually, Wayne took over the entire business until he sold it to Kent Kindelsperger in 1988.
While the menu is stocked full of yummy items like shakes, malts, freezes and smoothies, the store is known for its soft-serve ice cream that you can coat in a chocolate, caramel or cherry shell.
County Style lives up to its high standards and most definitely, “Tastes like homemade.” It definitely should be on the radar of any visitor or QC native looking for a tasty frozen treat.
Country Style has 7 Quad Cities locations.
