Every Sunday I wake up and treat myself to my favorite cup of coffee made by Redband Coffee Co. It is the New Orleans Style iced coffee, a combination of coffee concentrate, brown sugar, and whole milk. It is a delicacy all on its own; a sickly sweet, smooth beverage that is refreshing and satisfying in the ways only a great coffee can be. Why Redband?
Coffee concentrate is made from steeping coffee grounds in water; the brown sugar is used to cut the acidity of the coffee; and the whole milk gives it a nice, rich texture.
Redband Coffee Co. opened its doors at 110 W. 13th Street in Davenport, Iowa, in November of 2007. They caught my eye years ago, as they are the only coffee company in town that ships their beans in green and roasts them onsite. Roasting coffee on such a massive scale is a craft all on its own and Redband does an outstanding job with its product.
Redband orders the beans from two different American distributors who bring in coffee from many different countries, Brazil, Ethiopia, Mexico. Their “house coffee” and one of the most popular comes from Sumatra. They manually drip-brew their coffee, as opposed to using a machine, giving a bit more care and control over the brewing process.
Redband sells their coffee by the cup, the whole bean, or in concentrated form. They have several coffee brewing products for purchase as well.
Redband has a few things to eat too. I often indulge in their egg and chorizo sandwich, though their cookies and scones are also quite good.
I know I’m not the only one who has fallen in love with this coffee company, they opened their second location in June of 2011 which has become the more popular of the two spots. It is in downtown Davenport, at 329 E. 4th Street, just before the train bridge in a beautiful location.
Here you have the option of a drive through, a walk-up window, and stopping inside the shop. The menu is the same as is the friendly service.
Redband Coffee Co. is open every single day of the week from 6:30am – 2pm. It is a great, locally owned business producing one of the best cups of coffee in the Quad Cities. Visit them at their two locations in Davenport or check them out online at redbandcoffee.com
