You and your sweetheart can have a wonderful time this February with any of these ideas.
Monthly Archives: January 2017
January can be grey and dreary in the Midwest but Brian and I found a warm spot to enjoy lunch a few weeks ago. Sriracha Thai Bistro & Oyster Bar is a new restaurant in Moline, located in the lower level of the The Mills at Riverbend Commons apartment complex next to Western Illinois University. With a view of the Mississippi River and a quiet and beautifully designed interior, the restaurant was a welcoming change from the many acoustically-challenged choices in the area.
As we begin this new year, many of us make resolutions to make healthier choices, and this includes eating better. There are few things in this life that we have control over, the food that we use to fuel and energize ourselves is one of those things. We all know this and, yet, this country as a whole still consistently overeats and eats things that are not good for our bodies. I’ve been working very hard to change this for myself, at home, and am now choosing to frequent establishments that support me in this goal.
The weekend of January 20th is the “Burly Birthday Show” for the Bottom’s Up Burlesque troupe, who has been together now for 5 years. I’ve been noticing over the past few years that the art form has been growing in popularity around the Quad Cities and decided to check out a performance. So, I recently attended my first burlesque show, performed at The Speakeasy in downtown Rock Island.
In its graceful and elegant charm, January tiptoes into the Quad Cities to help kick off WQPT’s 2017 fundraising year with 16th annual Champagne on the Rocks gala.
Brian and I were looking for comfort food for a late breakfast one morning this month. We decided to try locally owned, Smokey’s Country Diner in East Moline, IL. We used to frequent Smokey’s when it was in Colona and we hadn’t been there since they moved.
Do you get stuck in a rut when you are dining out in the Quad Cities – visiting the same few restaurants again and again?
While we love to be loyal to the local establishments we love, there are many we haven’t had the chance to try yet. We recently had the opportunity to eat at Barley and Rye Bistro. Safe to say it has become a fast favorite.
When the snow piles in front of our door, and the temperatures duck below zero, all Quad Citians want to do is climb into our sweats and switch on the newest Netflix additions.
But this winter it’s time to switch that up, and crawl under a nice warm blanket with a good ole’ book — so, drop that episode of Orange is the New Black, or UnBreakable Kimmy Schmidt for the latest literary releases and you could win some prizes for doing so!
