The HOMEBREW FESTIV-ALE returns Saturday, July 14, and aims to be bigger and better than ever! I recently met up with Jason Parris, co-owner of Wake Brewing and event creator and coordinator, to get the details on this year’s festivities.
FESTIV-ALE is a great way to learn about homebrewing, meet those that have built and sustain the community that surrounds it, and to try what they love to make. There will be over 50 beers on tap to taste.
The 3 local clubs, MUGZ, REFS, and the Powder Keggers, will be there alongside over a dozen other clubs from all over the Midwest.
This year there is a location change and FESTIV-ALE will be held in the parking lot of Wake Brewing at 2529 5th Ave. in Rock Island, Illinois. Gates open at 2 pm. The tickets are $20 and are on sale via the event Facebook page here or at MIDWESTTIX.COM. Cost of admission includes a commemorative tasting glass and 15 sampling tickets.
This year also features reverse collaborations with several professional brewers in town, including Radicle Effect Brewerks, 5ive Cities Brewing, Crawford Brew Works, Geneseo Brewing Co., and Wake Brewing. A reverse collaboration is when a professional brewer goes and brews on a homebrew system.
Roy’s All Fed Up Wienie Cart will be serving hot dogs, brats, and polish sausages during the event. Very few things go together as well as beer and hot dogs do!
The HOMEBREW FESTIV-ALE this year will be a great time with great people serving and drinking great brews. It is always a highlight of the local beer community every year as it continues to grow and improve. Check it out at Wake Brewing in Rock Island on Saturday, July 14, 2pm – 6pm.
