The Rock Island Library kicked off their newest library and it’s on wheels! You don’t want to miss the opportunity to check out your next library materials from the “Bookmobile”.
What the Mobile Library offers
Inside the large vehicle, you will find walls lined with library materials. Books, movies and other items are carefully selected by librarians to offer a variety of the best materials available in Rock Island’s vast library collection. You can check out and return materials right in the mobile library. There are also benches for sitting and selecting your materials.
Where to find the Mobile Library
The mobile library follows two schedules (the blue and the red weeks) typically on alternating weeks. It drives to specific locations around the library district and parks for a few hours. Locations range from elementary schools to grocery stores to parks. The best way to find out where you can meet the Library2Go is by calling 309-732-7369 or visiting www.rockislandlibrary.org. Also, follow the Rock Island Library Facebook page. Fridays are pop-up locations announced on Facebook.
Who can use the mobile library?
The Quad Cities libraries have a reciprocal agreement, so patrons from across the region can appreciate and use this amazing addition to Rock Island’s library. Just be sure to bring your library card! The materials offered in the mobile library serve all ages from the littlest story listeners to the oldest reading patrons.
Danielle Roman and her son are especially excited about the new library: “Paul and I ‘chased down’ the book mobile on Tuesday. We had a ton of fun! Great selection and super clean. Paul asked for a specific book and they didn’t have it, but then someone actually returned it and Paul about jumped through the roof. He read for hours when we got home.”
