I asked my fellow Quad Citizens for the best sandwiches available in the Quad Cities and they delivered. My mouth is literally watering as I write this and I can’t wait until my next lunch date! My advice: just start at the top of the list and work your way down. There’s not a single sandwich or establishment on this list that you will regret trying. Sooooo many tasty recommendations!
Jimmy’s Pancake House in Bettendorf, Iowa, is a family owned restaurant where “everything is made to order with fresh, quality ingredients using Jimmy’s perfected recipes.”
“You can’t change the world, but maybe you can make a difference for one person,” José Martinez explains. He and his family are hoping to make a difference right here in the Quad Cities, one taco at a time.
Loosely located across from the Quad City Expo Center (on the opposite side of the curve) at 2700 5th Ave. in Rock Island, Taqueria El Pendiente is owned by Hortencia Gonzalez and Agustin Martinez.
The mission behind the restaurant (besides good food) is Gonzalez’s dream – a taco pendiente.
Since I am a fan of short day trips, I think Lavender Crest Winery in Colona, Illinois, is a must visit destination. Lavender Crest, which opened in 2004, is located on 9 acres of rich land. It is a special place to enjoy outside dining as well as indoor dining, special occasions and events. The outdoor dining area is on a shaded patio and looks out onto the vineyard and a large gazebo.
