ABOUT THE QC GLASS HUNT

Visit Quad Cities and Hot Glass are excited to bring you the QC Great Glass Hunt.  There are 250 glass floats hidden around the Quad Cities in various parks in Bettendorf, Davenport, Moline, and Rock Island.  Each glass float is handblown at Hot Glass in their glass-blowing studio and gallery in Davenport.  Now all you have to do is find them.  We extend special thanks to Davenport Printing Company for creating the scannable QR code stickers attached to each of the floats.

We also invite you to experience the QC Public Art TrailWhile separate from the QC Glass Hunt, Visit Quad Cities has also partnered with Quad City Arts and is using a mobile-based platform to create a trail that features temporary and permanent sculptures, murals, and even galleries where you can purchase art in the Quad Cities.  While this trail is not part of the QC Glass Hunt, the QC Public Art Trail introduces Quad Citizens and visitors to the fantastic array of public art projects essential to the QC experience.  The trail also works as a repository for a complete list of public art in the QC.  Check it out at www.QCArtTrail.com.

WHAT ARE GLASS FLOATS?

Fishermen used glass floats to keep their fishing nets, longlines, or droplines afloat.  The QC Great Glass Hunt floats capture the spirit of finding a treasure.  Each sphere is handblown to resemble the fishing floats of the past.  You will discover clear and colorful floats on your treasure-hunting journey.  Each one is unique and celebrates the creative spirit of the QC region.

START YOUR TREASURE HUNT!

All you have to do is find a float and report your find on this website.  Each float has a sticker with a QR Code to report your discovery and an etched number on each float showing which one you have found in the series (Example 5/250).

PLEASE LIMIT TO NO MORE THAN 3 FLOATS.  Everyone should have a chance to find a float.  Do not hoard the floats, please.

A running tally of discovered floats will be reported on this website.

Glass Floats are hidden in the following parks.  Always respect our QC parks, their hours, and others participating in the QC Great Glass Hunt.

Bettendorf - Crow Creek Park and Middle Park

Davenport - Sunderbruch Park, Prairie Heights Park, and River Heritage Park (River Heritage Park is located along East River Drive through 4th Street on the riverfront East of the Rock Island Arsenal Bridge).

Moline - Prospect Park, Sylvan Island, and Ben Butterworth Parkway on the riverfront

Rock Island - Sunset Park/Sakfidas Parkway at Sunset Park and Great River Trail along the Mississippi River in Rock Island

COMMON QUESTIONS

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FIND A FLOAT?

1.  Use your phone to scan the QR Code on the sticker that is adhered to your float, or just come back to this website qcglasshunt.com and click on the REGISTER YOUR FIND button.

2.  Fill out the form completely.  Each Float has a number etched on the glass (Example 5/250 - enter the number 5)

3.  Your float number is associated with a specific park.  Please choose the correct park you found it in from the drop-down menu on the form.  Your float number must match the park it was hidden in.  Why?  That's how we know that floats have been found and how many are left at each park.

4.  Please do not hoard glass floats.  This is for everyone to enjoy.

5.  If you found a float and registered it, do not hide it again.  If a person finds it, they cannot register it because you have already registered it.  A float can only be registered once.

6.  Do not hide floats in other parks, as the tracking number of the float is connected explicitly to the park in which it was hidden.

7.  Please limit your finds to no more than 3 floats.

8.  You can follow our QC Glass Hunt Facebook group, where you can post photos of yourself and your float and tell others about your experience.  Also, use #QCGreatGlassHunt when posting to your Facebook and Instagram pages.

IS THERE A DEADLINE FOR FINDING THEM?  WILL THERE BE ANOTHER QC GLASS HUNT?

The QC Great Glass Hunt remains open until all 250 floats are discovered.  Once all floats are found,  Visit Quad Cities will work with Hot Glass to create more handblown floats for an all-new QC Great Glass Hunt in 2023.
