The First "Easy Chair"

C.C. Knell moved to Rock Island in 1876 and opened a furniture store. He invented Knell's Reclining Chair, a well-padded, adjustable-backed chair with a footrest. Knell sold the world's first “Easy Chair”, for $10. Knell died in 1887 without securing the patent rights.
