Civil War

Located on the largest island in the upper Mississippi River, the Rock Island Arsenal has played a major role in the supplying of U.S. troops from the Civil War through today.  During the Civil War, more than 12,000 captured Confederate prisoners were held on Arsenal Island.  Those that died there are buried in the Confederate Cemetery on the island in individual graves.
