t’s Pride Month! Join us for an evening of live music in the Figge Café and a featured film in the auditorium, introduced each week by a different community guest host. This special series is made possible by the Art Bridges Foundation in conjunction with the Felix Gonzalez-Torres exhibition now on view at the Figge Art Museum.
This week’s event hosted by Mary Francis, Clock, Inc. Program and Innovation Lead features live music in the Figge Cafe and a screening of Paris is Burning in the Figge’s John Deere Auditorium.
About Paris is Burning:
Where does voguing come from, and what, exactly, is throwing shade? This landmark documentary provides a vibrant snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of New York City’s African American and Latinx Harlem drag-ball scene. Made over seven years, PARIS IS BURNING offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion “houses,” from fierce contests for trophies to house mothers offering sustenance in a world rampant with homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS, and poverty. Featuring legendary voguers, drag queens, and trans women — including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, and Venus Xtravaganza.
Schedule:
- Live Music in the Figge Cafe: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
- Film Screening (Paris is Burning): 6 p.m.
Thursday night Free Admission is sponsored by Chris and Mary Rayburn
