Music: Chiptunes & Synths

Mar 24 2020 - Mar 24 2020

The Bettendorf Public Library is offering youth in 1st through 12th grades an opportunity to experiment with synthesized non-traditional music. Starting on March 10th, the Library will offer Music: Chiptunes & Synths every other Tuesday from 11:30 AM through 12:30 PM. Participants will get to create music and play with electronic sounds and beats. Alongside the hands-on experience, each session will offer information on the history of computer-generated music. No registration is required for these free events held at the Bettendorf Public Library located at 2950 Learning Campus Dr. in Bettendorf.

Chiptunes are a form of synthesized electronic music also known as 8-Bit music. The music was created using vintage arcade or console music chips. Music today can be created through hacking consoles or using large electronic instruments of the past and are now even available in small handheld recreations, apps, and computer software. Participants need not have any prior knowledge to take part of the events. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library. Those seeking more information can call John G. at the Library at 563-344-4188 or email [email protected].
