The Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society was formed in 1971 to honor the memory and perpetuate the music of Leon Bix Beiderbecke, a world renowned composer, cornetist and pianist, and a Davenport native son, through an annual jazz festival (the first weekend in August) and youth jazz education.
The Bix Jazz Festival celebrates the genius of Davenport's native son, Bix Beiderbecke, one of the most gifted cornetists of all time, with traditional jazz live music by premier jazz ensembles from all over the country and world. Traditional Jazz takes place for the festival at the Events Center inside the Rhythm City Casino and in beautiful LeClaire Park along the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown Davenport.
