New Technology Can Better Track Quad Cities Event Impact

September 26, 2019

Quad Cities (Thursday, September 26, 2019) – Visit Quad Cities, the region's official Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO), has a new and innovative tool to measure the direct economic impact of events on local businesses, employment, income, and taxes.

The Destinations International (DI) Event Impact Calculator draws on different data sources to provide an industry-wide standard.  These ten complementary data sources are updated annually to provide destinations with the most current results.  These sources include industry-wide studies, destination organization provided data, and government data into the calculator’s underlying model.

With more than 200 destination organizations using the tool, each individual destination organization receives access to a model that is uniquely developed for their destination.  Each event impact analysis is defined by basic parameters including the size, duration, and type of event as entered by the destination organization.

“The DI Event Impact Calculator will add value in how we measure the performance of various events in the QC,” said Dave Herrell, President and CEO, Visit Quad Cities.  “We will be on the cutting-edge of technology to fully understand the benefits, valuation, and ROI.  This process will help provide additive insights and a new standard for our regional destination.  Destinations International and Tourism Economics are leaders in analysis, and we look forward to adding this tool to our core competencies.”

The models and platform have been developed by Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics Company, and includes three distinct modules: meetings, sports, and festivals and cultural events.
