Visit Quad Cities Celebrates 30 Years
July 01, 2020
Quad Cities (July 1, 2020) – Just over 30 years ago, the Davenport Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Bettendorf Tourism & Visitors Bureau, and Illinois Quad-City Travel & Visitors Bureau announced their intention to merge. By the beginning of 1990, both the States of Illinois and Iowa approved the merger. Staff was hired and a new board of directors was formed.
Then on July 1, 1990, the three tourism organizations officially merged to become the Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau, now Visit Quad Cities. Visit Quad Cities is the official Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO) for the region.
“Thirty years of making a positive impact on the Quad Cities regional destination is something to be incredibly proud of and celebrate,” said Dave Herrell, President and CEO, Visit Quad Cities. “The vision and foresight by the many community leaders to create one regional Convention & Visitors Bureau serving the area should continually be recognized and honored. I would also like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to Vince Lindstrom, Bruce Riley McDaniel, Joe Taylor, the numerous board members, and talented staff that have all played a huge part of our history and success. Visit Quad Cities and our destination has a bright future ahead and we are grateful to those that have invested their time, energy, ideas, and passion into shaping the Quad Cities.”
Since 1990, the Quad Cities regional destination has welcomed millions of visitors, and recruited thousands of events, meetings, conferences, conventions and sports events to the area creating a significant economic impact by generating billions of non-resident revenues for the QC’s family of communities. As the destination’s leading marketing organization, Visit Quad Cities has promoted, advertised, and engaged millions of consumers and continues to sell and shape the region’s story.
Recently, a new Tourism Master Plan has been released that will chart the destination’s long-term future direction.
