Geneseo, located in Henry County, is approximately 20 minutes from the Quad Cities International Airport. It is known for its beautifully restored Victorian homes on tree-lined streets reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. Downtown Geneseo is historic and colorful and annually hosts unique events, community parades, and more. The Hennepin Canal is nearby which provides outdoor enthusiasts opportunities to experience trails or paddle in a peaceful and portage-free way to connect with this historic waterway. The entire canal is listed on the National Register for Historic Places.
A must-experience dining experience is in downtown Geneseo. The Cellar Restaurant is filled with history as they are tucked on the lower level of a 130-year-old building known as the Geneseo House. They have a glassed-in kitchen so you can see the chef prepare amazing house-cut steaks, chops, seafood, and their well-known specialty of Charcoal Broiled BBQ Shrimp. If looking for a little fun after dinner, grab a beer at the Geneseo Brewing Company which first got its start way back in 1884.
While in Geneseo and looking for a creative and entertaining option, the community is home of the Richmond Hill Players which started in 1968. A converted Barn reimagined into a live theatre that has shows running from April through November. They offer a wide range of productions from drama, thrillers, and comedies in a unique setting.
