6 Places for a Taste of Spring in the Quad Cities

Spring weather is here. And if you are like most parents, you are more than ready to get your kids out of the house right away. They need to burn off all the energy from the winter.

Add a few of these stops to your list for a taste of spring.

Black Hawk State Historic Site (Rock Island)
Explore one of Black Hawk State Historic Site's many trails and find plenty of signs of spring. The forests and trees will soon be full of buds and leaves. Bring a picnic lunch and eat in one of the many pavilions.

Walnut Grove Pioneer Village (Long Grove)
Get a blast from the past in Walnut Grove Pioneer Village. This is a wonderful spot that's a bit off the beaten trail. There are plenty of things to see - including 18 historic buildings. (We love the train car, too.)

Illiniwek Forest Preserve (Hampton)
This is a fun place for a hike with the entire family - you'll spot views of the Mississippi River, spot birds and other wildlife, and even check out some of the creeks and streams.

Vander Veer Park (Davenport)
There's no better place to see the first signs of spring than Vander Veer Park. Explore the gardens for all of the season's first flowers, sit by the fountain, search for ducks and other animals, and enjoy the time in the sunshine.

Modern Woodmen Park (Davenport)
The start of baseball season is one of the surest signs of spring. The first River Bandits home game was April 7.  The season is always full of great promotions. (And the Kids' Zone is such a great spot for the youngest fans.) Please watch their Facebook page for updated information.

Freight House Farmer's Market (Davenport)
If you are looking for a taste of spring, don't miss one of the largest markets in the Quad Cities regional destination. Track down the first flowers and vegetables of spring from local vendors, and enjoy a tasty meal from one of the many vendors. Or order something from the Market2Go.
