Dick’s House of Sport is Packed with FUN!

There’s a new sports destination in the Quad Cities: Dick’s House of Sport

As a family of sporty, active, energetic boys the newly re-imagined Dick’s House of Sport on Elmore Avenue in Davenport, IA was just right for a day of fun and training. As a bonus, I got to shop while they were having a great time. Our family spent two hours checking out the activities and we didn’t even get to the golf games. We easily could have spent another hour or two there!

I had a ton of fun! The rock climbing wall was a challenge. I liked all the different ability levels. In the cage, you could play a variety of sports: baseball, soccer, hockey, and even football. You could even play a full nine-inning baseball game! — Oliver, age 12

What’s there to do?

  • The 30+ foot climbing Rock Wall
  • The Multisport Cage: baseball, softball, soccer, football, hockey. You can play a variety of games from homerun derby to target practice, to shooting with an ice-like hockey floor!
  • Golf Galaxy's golf simulator

The most fun part of Dick’s House of Sport is the rock climbing wall, though you have to wear special shoes and it’s kind of scary, it’s really fun. For once, we didn’t have to drive far to do this kind of thing and it was right near other shopping we wanted to do. — Bennett, age 9

The helpers there encouraged us and helped make it the best time by teaching us good techniques and skills. They were also on top of safety making sure we had our helmets and gear on correctly. — Oliver, age 12

Who is it for?

  • Individuals
  • Families
  • Team training or bonding
  • Private lessons
  • Birthday parties

They had fun activities for people of all ages, even old dads like me. It was a fun low-pressure place to take some swings and have some fun. As a youth sports coach in the Quad Cities, I can definitely see opportunities to bring teams out for a different kind of practice or some team bonding. — Luke, age 45

My favorite part of our visit was the climbing wall. I think it’d be really great to get a climbing wall membership or have my birthday party here since it’s in February and we can’t be playing outside. I could also see my friends and teammates having fun in the cage. — Charles, age 14

For coaches, schools, and teams, the opportunities at this location are tremendous. The staff can move entire sections of merchandise to create space for athletic training and competitions. They have access to experts, many on their staff, to teach and inspire athletes of all ages. They have access to equipment and programs to enhance any current sports experience. There isn't a place like this elsewhere in the Quad Cities.

In what ways can you learn?

  • Test trials
  • Sports clinics
  • Fitness clinics
  • Ability assessments
  • Skills training

I loved that even though I’m the littlest in our family, it was still fun for me. I liked feeling that I could do the rock climbing wall and also the (batting) cage. When we played baseball the balls were set to my little league speed instead of the fastballs my high school brother got. They even changed the background of the field so I wasn’t hitting on a huge field. It was fun! — Simon, age 7

As a soccer player, the soccer option in the cage showed me how accurately and at what velocity I kick the ball. I feel like if I did this multiple times a week, it would be a good workout and I’d really see improvement. It was also a ton of fun. — Oliver, age 12

Special events and speakers
Of all we learned about Dick’s House of Sport the special events, speakers, and space flexibility are what I’m most excited about! From yoga and pilates classes to spin competitions to specialists in all areas of sports, there are SO many things planned for Quad Cities’ athletes of all ages. Did I mention they offer parents' night out evenings??

Because of the flexibility of the space, so much can be moved and altered depending on the event they are hosting. The clete area can turn into an agility clinic, the bat area can become a fielding lesson space, and the shoe section can be a biking competition. What kind of event are you interested in having? Likely, Dick’s House of Sport can accomodate you!

The staff was really impressive.
Each person we met on our visit was extremely helpful. So helpful that more than one of my sons remarked that it was one of their favorite parts of the experience. They felt supported, encouraged, and learned a lot. I would highly recommend the staff for any of your team or family sessions. You won’t be disappointed.

The services
I didn’t realize how much Dick’s House of Sport could help athletes fix or improve their gear. There are so many services available from bike tune ups to breaking in mits to bat re-gripping to fishing reel spooling to racket restringing to club repair. And, that’s not all! The fix-it / service area will get you and your gear in top shape.
