6 Steps to Plan Your Virtual Spa Day

Nothing beats the power of a creative and innovative mind.  You know the old adage, when life throws you lemons, make lemonade? Well, I decided to put that to the test when I began to look at the wear and tear on my body from being cooped up for so long due to COVID. I’ll admit it, ladies; it wasn’t pretty. Long gone are the days where I’d book a massage just because I broke a nail or someone looked at me funny; you guessed it…I'd book a massage for no reason at all.  I’d arrive bright-eyed and bushy-tailed ready to lay bare all my cares under warmed sheets while someone rubbed aromatic oils all over in what feels like only ten minutes even though they try to convince me it was really an hour (the jury is still out).

Well, that being a thing of the past for me, I started to wonder whether it was possible to regain what has been so tragically lost. That's when I decided to do something quite outside the box that was so much fun. How about planning a “Virtual Spa Day” with your girlfriends?

Picture it:  Find a way to recreate a relaxing spa experience…virtually.  It's possible and here's how:

6 Steps To Plan Your Own Virtual Spa Day

1. Use your Zoom account to set up the meeting. Be sure to include your Zoom link in your invitation.

2. Write up a simple, but fun, invitation to your friends asking them to join you at the “Virtual Spa Day Event.” (Event should last up to 2 hrs, no longer.)

Here’s a PDF sample of the one I used.

3. Instruct your guests to have a bottle of wine on hand or their favorite beverage and a dessert or snack tray. My friends and I all took turns showing off what we had assembled.

4. Ask them to prepare a treatment to give themselves and come prepared to give a little insight into what they selected. At my event, ladies did things like nail treatments, facials, body scrubs, hair treatments, etc.  One person (who shall remain nameless) did a hot tub soak (appropriately attired, of course). Don’t judge.  You can provide an agenda like this one (see a sample PDF) or just go with who volunteers.

5. Include spa music. I found this great selection on YouTube.

Pro Tip: After you share your screen to show the video, be sure to share your sound on zoom. That way your guests can hear the music as well. Here's how:

6. Optional: Consider mini-presentations.  I asked three attendees who sold goods and services in the “health & wellness area” to give 5-10 minutes presentations during our treatments.

(Shameless plug coming…) One friend did a presentation on her homemade body scrubs and hair products called Shea That Again, another did a beautiful presentation on her health coaching service called Next Stop Wellness 703-380-1603, and the third did a quick show of her nail polish business called Color Street.  Everyone loved it and a total win-win.

One other surprise was that two of my friends brought their daughters, who were so adorable. One child gave her mother a makeover which ultimately became a horror show!

Folks, between the relaxing music, glasses of wine, and seeing each other in robes and mud masks, we had such a good time hanging out together and having a laugh. I guess it is true when they say necessity is the mother of invention.
