Celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week 2024 in the Quad Cities

Welcome to National Travel and Tourism Week 2024! Here in the Quad Cities, we are excited to celebrate the impact of tourism on our local economy and community. This annual event, led by the U.S. Travel Association, highlights how travel powers economic growth and connects communities.

What is National Travel and Tourism Week?

National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is a nationwide event that celebrates the contributions of the U.S. travel industry. This year’s theme is “Travel. Powering the Economy. Connecting America.” It’s the perfect time to explore how tourism benefits our region and the people who call the Quad Cities home.

Economic Impact of Tourism in the Quad Cities

Did you know that tourism in the Quad Cities generates $1.3 billion in visitor spending each year? This spending supports over 9,000 local jobs and saves each household nearly $1,300 in taxes annually. Tourism helps fund vital community services, from education to public safety.

Unique Attractions in the Quad Cities

The Quad Cities is a vibrant area with plenty to offer residents and visitors. Whether you’re experiencing our creative energy or visiting historic landmarks, there’s something for everyone. Attractions like the Figge Art Museum, the Mississippi Riverfront, and our bustling downtown areas showcase the best of what the Quad Cities has to offer.

One Visit Makes an Impact

Let’s look at how a typical tourist visit can benefit our local economy. Imagine a family of four visiting from Wisconsin. Here’s how their trip contributes:

  • Fueling Up: They stop at a local gas station to fill up their car, contributing to local sales tax revenue.
  • Dining Out: They enjoy breakfast at The Diner, lunch at Lemongrass Cafe, and dinner at The Tangled Wood, supporting local eateries and their employees.
  • Entertainment: They buy tickets and spend their day at the Family Museum and then end the night with a Quad Cities River Bandits baseball game, where they also purchase snacks and souvenirs.
  • Shopping: They visit local shops and boutiques like Wind Dancer and CraftedQC, buying unique gifts and memorabilia to take home while supporting local makers and small business owners
  • Lodging: They stay overnight at a local hotel, which provides jobs and contributes to the hospitality industry.

Through their visit, this family helps boost our local economy in multiple ways, supporting businesses and generating tax revenue that benefits all Quad Citizens.
