Saturday, November 1, 2025, downtown Moline will transform into a vibrant tapestry of color, music, and tradition as Mercado on Fifth hosts its 4th Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration. From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, families, friends, and neighbors will gather to honor loved ones, embrace rich Mexican traditions, and celebrate the beauty of community.

Día de los Muertos is more than a holiday—it is a celebration of life, memory, and togetherness. Visitors will be swept up in the rhythms of live music and dance, featuring performances by the Glenview Middle School Mariachi Band, Quad City Ballet Folklórico, Ambición Norteña, and singer Charlotte Blu. The air will be alive with energy, laughter, and the joy of shared cultural experiences.

Families can explore a variety of hands-on activities and art experiences, from decorating sugar skulls to creating vibrant paper flowers. Children will delight in face painting and crafts, while adults can wander through stunning art installations that reflect the depth and beauty of the tradition. Mercado on Fifth’s grounds will be alive with vivid altars and community ofrendas, where families honor loved ones with flowers, candles, photos, and heartfelt tributes—a reminder of the connections that tie us together.

The celebration also introduces exciting new features this year. El Camino de las Calaveras, or The Path of Skulls, invites participants to showcase dazzling Catrina- and Calavera-inspired fashion, blending creativity with cultural tradition. Attendees can walk among stationary parade floats and displays, taking their time to appreciate the artistry, interact with families and local businesses, and even collect candy along the way. It’s the Quad Cities’ first-ever stationary parade, offering a unique way to experience this beloved tradition at your own pace.

No celebration is complete without food, and Mercado on Fifth will offer a rich selection of authentic Mexican flavors, from pan de muerto to atole, alongside a marketplace of local vendors and artisans. Every bite, every purchase, and every interaction contributes to a vibrant, thriving community that embraces both tradition and togetherness.

“This celebration is about remembrance, unity, and joy,” says Frances Williams, Executive Director of Mercado on Fifth. “We are thrilled to offer the stationary parade this year, allowing families to engage with each display at their own pace while deepening their connection to this beautiful Mexican tradition.”

Día de los Muertos is an invitation to celebrate life, honor memory, and connect with your community. Whether you come dressed in traditional Catrina or Catrin attire or simply bring your curiosity and joy, every moment promises color, energy, and heartfelt experiences. Admission is free, making it easy for everyone to join in this cultural celebration.
