What's Happening in September

From hiking the rugged paths at Illiniwek Forest Preserve to cycling the Great River Trail, these outdoor activities are a refreshing escape and offer a chance to connect with nature. So grab your gear, hit the trails, and enjoy the crisp autumn air as you take in the stunning views of the transforming landscape.

Don't miss the chance to explore the QC Public Art Trail! This trail is a vibrant collaboration between Visit Quad Cities and Quad City Arts, showcasing an ever-evolving outdoor gallery of sculptures and installations that reflect the creativity and culture of our community. Perfectly complementing a day spent outdoors, the Public Art Trail provides an engaging and accessible experience, inviting art enthusiasts and casual explorers alike to discover the artistic landmarks scattered across our scenic environment.


Bettendorf Dog Park Alliance Dogtoberfest – September 12

On Friday, September 12 from 5-8 p.m., Crow Creek Dog Park will host Dogtoberfest, which includes food trucks, auctions, raffle baskets, and beer provided by The Tangled Wood. Dogtoberfest is free to attend with the first 150 households receiving a free doggie bag full of goodies. All breeds and pedigrees are invited.

Dogtoberfest is organized by the Bettendorf Dog Park Alliance and sponsored by (in alphabetical order) Bark Royale, D’Lua, Enviromark, Glenroads Veterinary Clinic, K9 Resorts, Klein Animal Clinic, Living in the QC, Maplewood Veterinary Center, Pet Supplies Plus, Pfitz’s Fence & Deck, Purina, Quad City Storm, RILCO Lubricants & Services, RILCO Safety Supply, Teske’s Pet and Garden Cetner, The Tangled Wood, True Homes EXP, Twin Bridges Animal Hospital, and Zimmerman Honda.

Rock Island Artists Market – September 14

Support local creativity at the Rock Island Artists Market, where you'll find a diverse array of handcrafted goods, from jewelry and pottery to paintings and textiles. Held monthly, this market is a vibrant showcase of the Quad Cities' artistic talent. As you stroll through the vendor booths, you can chat with the artists, learn about their processes, and perhaps even pick up a unique piece of art for your home. Live music and food trucks add to the festive atmosphere, making it a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Thursday Night Groove Free Concert Series - All Month Long

Unwind and groove to the beat at the Thursday Night Groove concert series at Schwiebert Riverfront Park. This lively event brings the community together every Thursday evening to enjoy a diverse lineup of local and regional musicians. From jazz and blues to rock and indie, each week offers a new musical experience against the backdrop of the stunning Mississippi River.

Danndee Flowers U-Pick Farm - Through September 14

September is the ideal time to visit Danndee Flowers U-Pick Farm, where vibrant fields of sunflowers, zinnias, and other seasonal blooms await. Wander through the rows of flowers, shears in hand, and create your own custom bouquet to take home. This family-owned farm offers a peaceful retreat and a chance to enjoy the simple pleasures of rural life. With the arrival of fall, the farm becomes a kaleidoscope of color, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing day outdoors or a charming photo opportunity.

Rock Island Artists Market – September 14

Join dozens of local artists, makers and more for the Rock Island Artists’ Market on the second Sunday of every month, June through October! The market is held from 12 to 5 pm in the parking lot of Skeleton Key Art and Antiques, 520 18th Street in downtown Rock Island, IL. In addition to a variety of incredible artists, shoppers will enjoy delicious food, a variety of sweet treats, and live music by local musician Roger Carlson. This outdoor event is free to the public and family friendly!

Taming of the Slough - September 13

Join River Action for our annual Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon this fall to paddle, mountain bike, and run your way to the top. This year’s Taming of the Slough will take place in downtown Moline. The route takes you on a 2 mile paddle through the Sylvan Slough by kayak, canoe, or SUP, then 2 laps through one of the Quad Cities best single track mountain bike trails on Sylvan Island, and finishes with a 2 mile run over the I-74 bridge. Compete individually, as a 2-person team, a 3-person relay-team, or join the Corporate Challenge to Tame the Slough!

Riverssance Festival of Fine Art - September 20 & 21

Riverssance Festival of Fine Art is celebrating its 37th year as the premier fine arts festival of the Quad Cities, showcasing nearly 100 of the top artists throughout the greater Midwest. Organized and run by art enthusiasts, Riverssance continues to be recognized for its careful attention to artists’ success, community partnerships, great buyers, beautiful location, and a fun weekend for all.

QC Marathon – September 28

Feel the energy of the Quad Cities as runners from across the country gather for the QC Marathon, an iconic race that winds through four cities and two states. Whether you're an experienced marathoner or a first-time spectator, the QC Marathon offers something for everyone, from the full 26.2-mile challenge to the family-friendly 5K and kid's race. It’s a celebration of endurance, community, and the spirit of the Quad Cities. Come out and cheer on the runners, enjoy live music, and soak in the electric atmosphere of one of the region's premier athletic events.
